Several years ago, when I decided to get serious about painting, I took an immersive seminar taught by Kevin McPherson in the beautiful countryside of Maryland. Although Kevin is known for his loose, impressionistic painting style, the biggest lesson I learned from him was to work hard to create a new voice and to push the limits of both illustration and abstraction.

This piece, which I have re-painted and honed about 5 times was born out of a sketch from that trip and that experience. In one short weekend, I learned that shadows can be purple and outdoor paintings can be forged into cutting edge, modern art.
